ISPO Australia President
Michael is a Senior Lecturer at the National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics and an affiliate of the Musculoskeletal Research Centre, La Trobe University. Michael has worked as an academic for about 10 years following his initial teaching post at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. With expertise in transfemoral prosthetics and in particular, ischial containment socket designs, Michael has taught this clinical speciality both in Australia and abroad. Michael's research has focused on the gait of persons with partial foot amputation and the effects of prosthetic design. Michael has previously worked in interim prosthetic programs and private practice.
Michael first became involved with ISPO Australia in 2003 as part of a conference convening committee and became a member of the Executive Committee the following year. Michael has served as Chair of the Scientific and Education Committee (2004-2010), the Annual Scientific Meeting Liaison Committee (2010-) and Vice President (2005-2011). Michael has been instrumental in the establishment of the ISPO Australia Research Grant and numerous courses and conferences which have been the backbone of ISPO Australia's mission to further education and research.
Michael feels that ISPO Australia has given him many wonderful opportunities to grow as a professional and develop a wide range of skills including the ability to manage complex projects as well as lead teams of people and mentor individuals.
Over the initial 12 months of the triennium, Michael hopes to see the new Executive Committee grow into a cohesive team, establish better systems of governance and create a plan to guide and focus activity of the organisation into the next triennium. |
