Getting involved with ISPO
It's
easy to get involved with ISPO. At any time, the National Executive
welcomes offers to participate in committees and subcommittees.
Offers for assistance with specific tasks appear regularly in ISPO news and at ispo.org.au/news.
Nominations for election to the National executive
are called for before every 3rd AGM. When particular vacancies emerge
on the executive, members may be co-opted for the remainder of the
triennium, and re contest the position at the next AGM.
ISPO has previously supported volunteers working in pacific nations,
and the outreach committee continues to pursue activities of this kind.
As these positions emerge, members will be advised through ISPO news
and via regular email contact. This is an exciting way to support the
development of P&O and related fields in our region.
The science and education committee is always very happy to receive offers to convene ASMs or
to develop advanced instructional courses. This can be a great way to
support the activities of the society, but also to have the societies
support and collaboration in doing so.
All members of ISPO are eligible for nomination to the International Executive Board
of the ISPO, and to relevant subcommittees and task committees. News of
calls for nominations appears in ISPO news and in the minutes of
international meetings. These minutes are available in the member's
area of ispo.org.au.
Some of these tasks can involve quite a lot of time, but can be very rewarding indeed. There are, for members with less time, smaller tasks. Writing a story for ISPO NEWS,
for instance, is a great way to participate. Through distribution to
all National Member Society members in Australia, and the other NMSs
around the world, ISPO NEWS reaches up to 2500 professionals. A great
way to contribute to the development of the field (especially in
low-income nations) might be to publish a Literature Watch piece.
Literature watch is intended to give professionals insights into
current literature in our fields. Particular interested is given to
those that make accessing contemporary evidence simpler for busy
professionals, and those with less academic experience.
Participation at any of these levels can be a very rewarding experience, and helps develop P&O and related fields.
