President of Kiribati visits TRS for World health Day
Lee Brentnall, Volunteer PO and ISPO Member, Kiribati
ISPO Australia has assisted Kiribati to develop the Tungaru Rehabilitation service. The TRS was recently able to join World Health Day celebrations with their colleagues at Tungaru hospital.
The Tungaru Central Hospital celebrates World Health day with a public holiday and opens the hospital up to the community. They hold a day long party, involving marching, dancing, singing and feasting as well as competitions for the most well presented ward.
There has been a fantastic reception from the community regarding the services now available to assist people to walk again after amputation. The service continues to gain more and more support from the Government of Kiribati to assist in it's development and sustainability.
The TRS was delighted to host the Honourable President of Kiribati, Anote Tong, who enjoyed a tour of the service and an overview of the services provided.
