Why should I join ISPO?
1. It's good value
ISPO membership is currently AUD$180.00. That's much less than registration with many national boards and organisations . Not only that, subscribing to Prosthetics and Orthotics International as a non-member is USD$180. That's right - if you want the journal, join the society, get the benefits at no extra charge and since the member rate at all National and International Events is reduced, you save even more.
No
professional involved in P&O and related fields should be without
the Journal in a time where the evidence base for our practices has
never been more important. But good value is just the start of the
benefits!
2. ISPO is a truly International Society
ISPO
Australia is just one of around 35 National Member Societies. ISPO has
members in all continents, from both industrialised and low-income
nations. This is your opportunity to collaborate with, learn from and
contribute to your peers and colleagues around the world.
3. ISPO is a unique multidisciplinary organisation
ISPO's most unique feature is its multidisciplinary nature. There is no equivalent organisation in any discipline, anywhere in the world.
Physicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, engineers,
surgeons, CBR workers, technicians, researchers and of course,
prosthetists and orthotists, come together with the shared objective of
advancing their profession through outreach activities, science and
education activities, and through participating in the Society's many
events.
4. It's good for you
Through
your ISPO membership, just some of the tangible benefits include
reduced registration to national scientific meetings and World
Congresses. Members receive ISPO News (the Australian news is
distributed worldwide and contains much internationally relevant
news). Members also receive the Society's Journal - Prosthetics and Orthotics International. POI is the premier scientific journal in prosthetics and orthotics and related disciplines.
Few
would argue that professionals involved in P&O can afford to be
isolated from current developments in the field - both in terms of
published clinical and technical research, and developments from
suppliers. Being an ISPO member is an outstanding way to stay abreast
of current developments through ISPO NEWS, scientific meetings
(including their outstanding trade exhibitions) and of course through
the Journal.
5. It's good for your discipline
Through
the Outreach Committees of each National Member Society, ISPO
contributes a great deal to the development of P&O and
rehabilitation services. The Australian NMS is one of the most active,
and has contributed a great deal to P&O services in the Pacific.
Through the hard work of multidisciplinary volunteers, ISPO can achieve
a great deal.
ISPO is also
charged with the responsibility of overseeing educational programs in
both industrialised and Low-Income nations. Your membership supports
the ongoing development of P&O education in parts of the world
where it is needed most.
In just the last few years, the Australian NMS has:
And
that's just the Australian National Member Society! Joining ISPO means
you are an international member. Multiply our activities by 35 and you
can imagine how active and valuable the ISPO really is.
6. It's good for your business
Being
an ISPO member is a demonstration to your clients and referrers of your
commitment to the development of your profession. Being a member of
your national profession-specific organisation is absolutely crucial
(sometimes mandatory) - joining ISPO is an additional step you can take
to advance your professional profile, develop skills and knowledge, and
to give back to your profession.
ISPO is delighted to share excellent relationships with other Australian professional organisations, Including AOPA - The Australian Orthotics and Prosthetics Association.
This is not an either/or choice. ISPO is completely unique, and gives
you unmatched opportunities for multidisciplinary collaborations and
international networking.
