The International Society of Prosthetics and
Orthotics, among its many aims, seeks to act as a vehicle for the
exchange of information through publication of its journal and
organisation of seminars, courses and conferences. Through these
activities, the International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics
strives to promote, encourage and support research, education and
clinical training for professionals in prosthetics and orthotics,
physiotherapy, occupational therapy, engineering, rehabilitation
medicine and others involved in rehabilitation of people with
Neuromusculoskeletal disabilities.
The Scientific and
Education Committee of the Australian National Members Society is
charged with the responsibility of fulfilling these aims of the
International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics, and does so through
the organisation of a scientific meeting, workshop or advanced
instructional course annually. These events have covered a wide range
of topics and have attracted some of the world's leading figures in
prosthetics, orthotics, rehabilitation and engineering as evidenced by
the list of major conference themes and keynote speakers.
To support such diverse scientific and educational activities, the
committee comprises clinicians, academics and researchers with
specialties in prosthetics and orthotics, biomechanics, engineering and
medicine with tremendous clinical, educational and research experience.
Activities of the Scientific and Educational Committee have been
tremendously successful over the past two decades which have
contributed to the improved quality of research and educational
outcomes; so much so that Australian's are now making their mark on the
international stage as leaders in prosthetics and orthotics related
research and education.
